Nordic Trails & Skiing

Girls day out on hill

At Western Pleasure Guest Ranch, we have cross country ski trails for all levels with the “Meadow Loop” for beginners, the “Big Hill Loop” for a long ski through the trees and a scenic viewpoint framed by the Selkirk and Cabinet Mountains. Return to the lodge for a little relaxation in front of a warm fire. Be sure to check in at the lodge and get a trail pass. You can also find trail updates on our Facebook page.

We do not have nordic ski or snowshoe rentals. Equipment can be rented at the Tauber Farm and Nordic Center located just three miles from the ranch on Gold Creek Road or the Alpine shop in Sandpoint.  If you are looking to try fatbike riding, Greasy Fingers Bikes n Repair has fatbikes for rent.

Trail Reports

February 15, 2018 –  The sun is out, the Big Hill Trail has been groomed again this morning, and it is a winter wonderland out there. Come out and ski on this beautiful day on the ranch!

February 14, 2018 –  One thing you can be sure about when it comes to North Idaho weather is that you can never be sure about it. With everyone thinking spring, the North Idaho weather reminded us that this is North Idaho. We received one foot of new snow overnight and the Big Hill Trail is groomed and ready to ski. Come on out to the ranch and continue to enjoy this North Idaho winter!

February 2, 2018 –   With cooler temperatures and a dusting of snow, we were able to groom up the Big Hill Trail. Conditions are still “spring-like” but much improved from last week.

January 26, 2018 –   After a period of temperatures too warm to groom, this morning we were able to groom the Big Hill Loop. Last night we received a covering of fresh snow, so this was helpful to get the classic tracks set. Looking forward to seeing you out skiing the ranch soon! Trails fees are $10.00 and can be paid at the lodge.

January 20, 2018 –  Warm weather and rain continue. Trails are still un-groomed.

January 15, 2018 –  The Big Hill Trail is open. The trail has been packed with our packer but there is no set track. When temperatures cool track will be set again.  Temperatures have prohibited grooming on the Meadow Loop so it is currently classified as “unmaintained”.

January 12, 2018 –  Because of the recent warm, wet weather, the Meadow Loop is currently closed. The Big Hill Trail is open. It will be groomed once the temperature cools enough to allow it.
