Without the hard work and years of dedication from Janice’s parents (Jim and Virginia Wood), this guest ranch would never have become a reality. This picture shows the Schoonover family in front of the lodge. Jim designed and participated in every aspect of the lodge’s construction.
Roley and Janice are both natives of Sandpoint, ID. Janice grew up on the ranch that is now known as the Western Pleasure Guest Ranch. Janice’s Grandpa, Riley Wood, came to Sandpoint in 1940 and the family has been on the ranch since that time. Horses have always been a major part of Janice’s life. As a child she was very involved in the local 4-H program. In 1982, she married Roley, her high school sweetheart. They moved away from Sandpoint to pursue Roley’s college career. He received a degree in business administration and six years after leaving Sandpoint, they returned home.
Roley and Janice’s oldest daughter, Danielle, is your typical horse crazy country girl. Her special four legged friends are Checkers and J.R. She and J.R. have won many special awards together. As a ranch wrangler, she enjoys riding the numerous trails around the ranch and loves to share her ranch life with visiting guests.

Isaac is Roley and Janice’s youngest. Isaac, like his sister, plays a mean fiddle so as a guest you can expect entertaining fiddle music around the campfire. Through the expert instruction of Pat Wyse and countless hours in the saddle, Isaac has become an inpressive horseman and trainer. He and his Dad make a great training team that starts all the ranch horses and Isaac takes outside horses for training as well. , As an active 4-H member he participates in the horse and beef program. |
