As the snow melts we are experincing some new visitors. This flock of turkeys has been making daily visits to the lodge. A sure sign of spring at Western Pleasure. Spring also means it is time to make your summer reservations. If you haven't done so yet, now is the time, there is just a few days left to book at 2007 rates. |

One week into spring, this robin who I found sitting on a snowy limb outside the lodge window, was wondering if it was winter or spring. We woke up this morning to a beautiful blanket of 6 inches of new snow. |

Have you had a chance to hear the new George Straight song "I saw God today"? The song expresses different ways the writer has seen God throughout a normal day. Well, we saw God the other day on the ranch, when through a horse emergency, Roley, Brad, or Janice was saved from serious injury. One of our draft horses crossed a fence buried in snow and was in a lot of trouble. Roley and Brad, rather then doing chores, began digging her out. While they were working with the horse they watched our main hay shed collapse under the snow load. Had they been on regular schedule, chances are very good they would have been in the barn. Unfortunately, we lost the horse and one other barn that day, but we are so thankful that we are all okay. It just really makes a person stop and realize what is really important.
The Barn as it stands today:

Yesterday, Roley and I went for a snowshoe hike with our destination being the corrals about a mile from the lodge. We were amazed with the snow levels, so we thought we would share our discoveries with you. The above picture shows Roley standing on the top rail of the corral. The bumps in the snow behind him are the tops of the posts. Many of you have ridden horses to this location and will recognize them in the picture below. You can see how tall the fence is next to Checkers and Dolly. Lots of snow!! Spring riding may come a little later this year.

November 30th we woke up to our first snow of the season. A blanket of about six inches. The horses were happy to follow the feed picup to the barns, where they will stay for the winter. Sleighs and draft horses are ready to begin their season. |

Fall is one of our favorite times on the ranch. The horses are putting on their winter coats, the trees all have a golden hugh about them and a dusting of snow is beginning to be seen on the mountains. The fall of 2007 is extra special because Roley and Janice are celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary.
We want to thank all of you who visited us this summer. We so enjoy sharing the ranch with you! |
